NEW DELHI: Now aspire for a degree from IIT without having to appear for the JEE. Whether you have completed class XII with english and maths at class X level or are pursuing studies in another higher education institution or are a professional, IIT-Madras is offering a first-of-a-kind online BSc course in programming and data science.
The course was launched by the HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Tuesday. The three-year course comes with multiple exit options — certificate in the first year, a diploma in the second and a degree on successful completion of the third year. The idea behind the programme is to prepare skilled manpower as data science is one of the fastest growing sectors that is predicted to create 11.5 million jobs by 2026 and online education is a trend being rapidly embraced for high quality education on a large-scale.
Pokhriyal, said: “Analysis reveals that every year 7 to 7.5 lakh Indian students go abroad in search of better education… Institutions such as IIT-Madras have the vision to help the nation move forward on its path to self-reliance.” The programme will be delivered on a state-of-theart online portal. It will have weekly assignments and inperson invigilated exams.
